Smarter Biodiversity Governance
A key challenge for governments is knowing what is happening with biodiversity in their country and promoting the social, economic and environmental benefits of biodiversity for their peoples and communities. TierraViva AI uses artificial intelligence to support decision-making through large scale processing of data. To do that we:
Use machine learning models to search and tag hundreds of millions of open access scientific and patent publications;
Identify records involving biodiversity from specific countries, geographic locations, and habitats;
Generate automated biodiversity intelligence reports and analytics dashboards;
Use Large Language Models and AI services to facilitate searching and summary of results across a range of data sources (literature, patents, the web and sequence data).
International Action
Our team has over two decades of experience in work with international instruments and understands the nature of the obligations under these instruments. We work with the following instruments and processes:
The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity
The International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture under the FAO (The Plant Treaty)
The Agreement on Marine Biological Diversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ)
WIPO Treaty on Intellectual Property, Genetic Resources and Traditional Knowledge
In future we intend to return to work on the the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Commission on Sustainable Development. We will also seek to provide services supporting other major environmental agreements such as the Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), and the RAMSAR Convention on Wetlands of International Importance.
We will engage with Indigenous Peoples through the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) and the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity (IIFB). We will support practical implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in partnership with Indigenous Peoples.
National Action
We will support governments in implementing their international obligations and commitments on the national and local level. We will do this in two main ways:

Working in partnership with technical assistance agencies and other organisations on bespoke solutions for the longer term
Our experience reveals that government needs vary within and between ministries and deparments. In some cases our existing tools can be configured to meet your needs. In other cases bespoke solutions will be needed.
